So after almost six months at Our Cabaña I wanted to share with you all why I enjoyed volunteering here so much.
Firstly, I have spent time with people from around the world, got to know them and developed my skills in working with different types of people. As a result of this, my leadership skills have undoubtedly developed greatly alongside my communication (and Spanish language!) abilities. Now, thanks to Our Cabaña I have realised that in the future there is no way that my job will not involve working directly with people because it is what I love. I have also realised that I thrive in an international environment, learning new games, different ways of doing things and discovering what it’s like to live in different climates, political situations, economic conditions, etc. has no doubt helped me to grow as a person and perhaps, most importantly, realise that no matter where you are in the world things such as manners and gratitude all hold the same value, which something that makes me very happy.
Furthermore, I enjoyed seeing how seemingly small things can make people happy whilst I was at Our Cabaña. For instance, playing football or making crafts with the children from our service project, sitting by the pool so that the participants could swim, waxing a piece of wood for someone in the craft house, making someone’s bed for them, helping to cut up fruit for breakfast in the kitchen or just finding the answer to someone’s question when I didn’t know the answer. Little gestures like these made me realise that sometimes just by taking the time to help people I can make a huge impact.
However, my absolute favourite part of volunteering at Our Cabaña was at the end of events when participants shared their experiences and I could see just how much their time at Our Cabaña meant to them- we truly helped to make dreams come true. Especially as now, I am feeling very much the same way they were then because no matter how long you visit Our Cabaña for; whether it is for only a few hours or for six months this World of Possibilities hidden in plain sight in the centre of Cuernacaca will change your life.
I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who I worked with and met during my time at Our Cabaña I will never forget you all, I know that I have made friends for life here as well as memories that I never want to let go.

Así que después de casi seis meses en Nuestra Cabaña quiero compartir con todos ustedes por qué me gustó tanto el voluntariado aquí.
En primer lugar, he pasado tiempo con personas de todo el mundo, he llegado a conocerlas y he desarrollado mis habilidades para el trabajo con diferentes tipos de personas. Como resultado de esto, mis habilidades de liderazgo, sin duda, se han desarrollado mucho junto con mis habilidades de comunicación (¡y el español!). Ahora, gracias a Nuestra Cabaña me he dado cuenta de que en el futuro no hay manera de que mi trabajo no implique trabajar directamente con las personas porque es lo que más amo. También me he dado cuenta de que prosperar en un entorno internacional, aprender nuevos juegos, diferentes formas de hacer las cosas y descubrir lo que es vivir en diferentes climas, situaciones políticas, condiciones económicas, etc., sin duda me ha ayudado a crecer como persona y quizás, lo más importante, darme cuenta de que no importa en que lugar del mundo estés la amabilidad y la gratitud tienen el mismo valor, algo que me hace muy feliz.
Además, me gustó ver cómo hay pequeñas cosas hicieron felices a la gente mientras yo estaba en Nuestra Cabaña. Por ejemplo, jugar fútbol o hacer artesanías con los niños de nuestro proyecto de servicio, estar sentada junto a la piscina para que los participantes pudieran nadar, encerar un trozo de madera para alguien en el taller de artesanías, hacerle la cama a alguien, ayudar a cortar la fruta para el desayuno en la cocina o simplemente encontrar la respuesta a la pregunta de alguien cuando no sabía la respuesta. Pequeños gestos como estos, me hicieron darme cuenta de que a veces con sólo darme tiempo para ayudar a la gente puedo lograr una diferencia y un gran impacto.
Sin embargo, mi parte favorita de mi voluntariado en Nuestra Cabaña fue al final de los eventos cuando las participantes compartían sus experiencias y pude ver lo mucho que el tiempo que habían pasado en Nuestra Cabaña significaba para ellas, realmente ayudamos a hacer los sueños realidad. Especialmente ahora, me siento de la misma manera en que ellas se sentían, porque no importa cuánto tiempo visites Nuestra Cabaña, ya sea por sólo unas pocas horas o por seis meses, este “Mundo de Oportunidades” ocultas a plena vista en el centro de Cuernavaca cambiará su vida.
Sólo quiero enviar un enorme agradecimiento a todas las personas con las que trabajé con y conocí durante mi estancia en Nuestra Cabaña. Nunca los olvidaré, sé que en Nuestra Cabaña he hecho amigos para toda la vida, así como recuerdos que nunca quiero olvidar.
